    The five years Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering is designed to equip students with skills to solve challenges in design, construction, propulsion, use and control for the safe operation of airplanes, missiles, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) or any similar vehicles that are designed to operate within the confines of the atmosphere of the earth.

    At ETAU, students begin with a set of courses that provide a background in all the fundamental aspects of engineering fields. The foundational courses include:

    • Applied Mathematics;
    •  Engineering Physics;
    •  Engineering Drawing; and,
    • Fundamentals of Chemistry.

    The entire spectrum of aerospace technologies follows the foundation classes- from aerodynamics and propulsion to structural mechanics, flight dynamics and controls.

    1. Courses in in aerodynamics and propulsion

     Courses in aerodynamics and propulsion look at how fluid and gas flow around bodies and through engines. They also study large- and small–scale air motion in the atmosphere and its relationship to environmental and noise problems.

    2. Courses in structural mechanics

    Structural mechanics courses emphasize lightweight structures and study their strength and elastic behavior.

    3. Courses in flight dynamics and control systems

    Flight dynamics and control systems deal with the dynamic behavior of vehicles and systems, their stability, and controllability. These courses cover the fundamentals of designing and constructing aircraft and other vehicular systems and subsystems.

    In their senior year, students take aircraft design courses to learn how all areas of engineering studies work together for the proper functions of all systems.

    Aircraft research and development, manufacturing, maintenance, operation and aviation education are identified as careers through which aeronautical engineers can pursue jobs suitable to their course. These roles are very crucial in the aviation industry, considering the increasing trends in aircraft manufacturing and production as well as the demand for professionals who can competitively work in the aviation field.

    In this program, students will also get exposure to the actual practical aspects of the industry in Ethiopian Airlines facilities with seasoned mentors.

    Graduates will have a wide opportunity of employment in all areas of the aviation industry including regulatory authorities, aircraft manufacturers, Airlines, MROs and other related organizations.
